When I first told my friends and family I was moving to Barry, near Cardiff in South Wales they were shocked, surprised and a little bit confused.
It was over 200 miles away and they only knew about it from the TV show Gavin and Stacey. But now that I'm here they totally understand why I decided to make the move, here's just a few reasons.
We have 4 beaches on our doorstep
Lucky for us (and the dog!) we have 4 beaches on our doorstep that we can walk to and let Bernie have a run around. Barry Island beach is really beautiful in the winter when there are less people around, but our favourite is Watchtower Bay for dipping our toes in the sea. South Wales has some of the best beaches I've ever seen!
Amusements
I couldn't write about the beach without writing about the amusement arcades too. On Barry Island there are lots of amusement arcades to choose from and we also have the Pleasure Park Fairground too if you fancy something more adventurous!
We're just outside Cardiff
Cardiff is just a short drive or a train ride away so you can pop into town in half an hour and spend the day in Cardiff too. We have lots of other great towns nearby like Penarth, Bridgend and Cowbridge which are really easy to get to.
We have green spaces too
Barry is probably more green than you'd think. We have Porthkerry County Park which is beautiful to visit during the summer, just bring your wellies if you come in winter! Cosmeston Lakes is nearby and Dinas Powys Woods is great to explore too.
The small businesses are amazing
You can't mention Barry without mentioning the community. We are so lucky to have such an amazing community of small businesses here with lots of different pockets of people. Everyone supports each other and it's a great feeling to be a part of something special. If you come to visit speak to one of our business owners, you'll soon know what I mean!
Moving to Barry has been one of the best decisions I ever made and I'm so glad I decided to take the leap!
